Reminders for 2015 Elections

  • PHOTO ID - Photo ID to vote is not required until the 2016 Election year. The exception to this is if a voter registers to vote by mail and fails to provide a valid driver's license number or the last 4 digits of a valid Social Security number. These voters are notified by mail that an ID is needed prior to voting for the first time. These required IDs for 2015 may be a current and valid photo ID, or a copy of a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows the voter's name and correct address.

  • SAME-DAY REGISTRATION - Eligible individuals may register and vote during the one-stop early voting period. This "same-day registration" process is currently permitted due to a preliminary injunction granted under a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, but this option remains the subject of ongoing litigation in federal court. These individuals must bring a valid form of identification that shows name and correct address. Same Day Registration is not allowed on Election Day. Please check back for updates.

  • OUT-OF-PRECINCT VOTING - Voters who appear on Election Day in the correct county but in the improper precinct may cast a provisional ballot, which will be counted for all contests in which the voter is eligible to participate. This "out-of-precinct voting" is currently permitted due to a preliminary injunction granted under a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, but this option remains the subject of ongoing litigation in federal court. Please check back for updates.
