Fire Permitting

Burn Permits

It is ILLEGAL to burn anything in Randolph County that does not grow naturally on your property. (i.e., limbs, brush, leaves, etc.).

Burn permits to burn brush inside of the unincorporated areas of the County can be obtained online through the North Carolina Forestry Service.

If you reside within the corporate limits of a municipality, please contact the municipality regarding open burning rules.

Fire Prevention Permits

In July 2023, the Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with Randolph County Information Technology Department and Central Permitting worked to transition the application for and issuance of mandatory construction and operational fire permits to the county’s on-line eSuites program.

The following permits are mandatory as required by the N.C. Fire Code:

How do I apply for a permit?

You can apply for a fire permit by creating an account and logging into our ePermits Portal or by contacting our Fire Plans Examiner at (336)-318-6916.

How do I submit plans and documents for review?

Required plans and documents (PDF ONLY) may be submitted electronically through the ePermits Portal  at the time of application. 

Although we do prefer the submission of plans electronically, we accept hard copy plans via courier delivery (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) or hand delivery to:

PLANS EXAMINATION AND PERMIT ISSUANCE WILL NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED. PLANS WILL NOT BE EXAMINED UNTIL THE PROPER PERMIT HAS BEEN APPLIED FOR. ONCE THE PERMIT APPLICATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED, PLANS EXAMINED, AND APPROVED, YOUR PERMIT STATUS WILL SHOW “APPLICATION APPROVED” “PENDING PAYMENT”. THE ACTUAL PERMIT WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL PAYMENT HAS BEEN RECEIVED. 

**Permit Fees shall be doubled if work commences prior to obtaining a permit!**
