On December 6, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Detective was notified that Gunnar McKenzie Widener, a registered sex offender, had violated the guidelines of his probation. On December 7, 2023, Detectives and EHA Officers with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, along with NC Probation and Parole conducted a search of electronic devices and his residence where several violations were found.
Charges were sought against Widener for felony electronic house arrest violation, and two counts felony fail to report new online identifiers and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant for arrest. No bond was issued. A first appearance was set for December 8, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
