On July 31, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Hwy 22 S, Ramseur, in reference to a vehicle theft. While en route, Randolph County Communications advised that the victim had provided information that an Alex Castro subject, later identified as Jesus Alexandro Castro, had stolen a vehicle and was possibly headed back to his home area in the stolen truck. Communications sent out an alert for the vehicle to surrounding agencies in that direction of travel.
Upon arrival to the victim’s address, information and evidence were collected for the investigation. The victim reported that Castro had become irate over a past purchase of car parts. The passenger with Castro exited their vehicle and tried starting a physical altercation. During the altercation, the victim reported that Castro shouted in a mixture of Spanish and English that he was going to grab a gun and shoot the victim. The victim was then assaulted with an object in the lower back causing him to drop to his knees. When he looked up, he saw Castro entering his truck ,and the passenger traveling with Castro, driving away in the truck they arrived in; both heading south on NC Hwy 22.
The victim stated that the alternator had gone out in the truck and he didn't think the truck would make it far. The deputy drove to the county line to see if the vehicle had broken down but it was not located. A short time later, Communications advised that Southern Pines Police Department had located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on it. Upon contact with Southern Pines Police Department, they advised that Mark Alfred Castro, who has been identified as the passenger with Alex Castro, upon their arrival in Randolph County, was in possession of the vehicle and arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. It was reported that Alex and Mark had changed vehicles while en route home. Arrangements were made for the victim to recover his vehicle.
Charges were sought against Jesus Alexandro Castro for felony larceny of motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor communicating threats and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
On December 12, 2023, Jesus Alexandro Castro was located in Cumberland County, NC. He was arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he was served the outstanding warrant. He was issued a $7,500 secured bond and a first appearance was set for January 12, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
