On December 30, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office deputy was approached at Sheetz on Finch Farm Rd. by a male subject who reported that a male subject was lying on the floor inside of the men's bathroom stall inside the business. Upon entry, the male, later identified as Kristopher Todd Hutchens, was found unresponsive. EMS and Fire responded for medical assistance. Hutchens regained alertness after Narcan was administered.
During a subsequent search, paraphernalia and heroin were located in his possession. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Charges were sought against Hutchens for felony possession of heroin, felony trafficking heroin, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
On January 11, 2024, Hutchens was located in Guilford County, arrested and transported to the Guilford County Detention Center where he was served the warrant for arrest. Bond was denied and a first appearance was set for February 5, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
