On January 31, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team initiated a traffic stop for minor violations on I-85 in Trinity. As Officers approached the vehicle, an odor of marijuana was detected emitting from within the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and Officers located marijuana along with a concealed firearm. After further investigation, it was determined that the firearm located had been reported stolen. The marijuana, along with the firearm was seized during this incident.
As a result, Kevin Dontee Pendergrass, Jr was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony carrying a concealed gun, felony possession of a stolen firearm, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana up to ½ oz. He was given a $10,000 secured bond with a first appearance set for February 2, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
