On March 13, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Waddell’s Ferry Rd. Ext., Seagrove, in reference to an armed person. Upon arrival to the area, deputies observed the subject, Wesley Mark Hussey, armed with a rifle. When deputies entered the driveway, Hussey fled on foot into a nearby wooded area ignoring verbal commands. Multiple units set up a perimeter and continued to narrow the search, locating Hussey hiding in a cove, in the edge of the river, under fallen trees. Multiple commands were given before he surrendered himself. Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate Hussey due to the time he had spent in frigid waters. During a subsequent search, ammunition was located in his possession. Hussey is a convicted felon and the defendant of an active 50B protective order, prohibited by the courts from being on this property where this incident occurred.
Hussey was transported to Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for misdemeanor domestic violence protective order violation and misdemeanor resisting public officer. No bond was given due to the domestic violence protective order violation. A first appearance was set for March 14, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
Following a review with the District Attorney’s Office, additional charges were sought for felony possession of a firearm by felon and felony 50B domestic violence protective order violation/deadly weapon. Hussey, still confined at the Randolph County Detention Center, was served the warrant. He was issued no bond and to be determined by a District Court Judge at a first appearance on these charges on March 15, 2024.
