On May 5, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Walker Mill Rd near Branson Davis Rd. in Sophia. The driver was identified as Steven Dwayne Hartman, who initially gave a false name. While still investigating Hartman, orders for arrest were located, one of which was a True Bill of Indictment issued by the grand jury in September 2024, for felony possession of a firearm by a felon.
Additional orders for arrest were found as follows: failure to appear on felony offenses of firearm by felon, felony possession of methamphetamine, and two misdemeanor traffic offenses.
Hartman was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for misdemeanor resisting public officer, fictitious registration tag, fail to apply for a new title, and driving while license revoked -impaired revocation. He was issued a secured bond of $1,000. He was served the additional four orders for arrest and he received an additional $32,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for May 6, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
