On May 22, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Old Greensboro Rd. and US Hwy 220 Bus. N. in reference to a wanted person, Jesse Wayne Hawks. Upon arrival, deputies observed the vehicle in which Hawks was traveling and initiated a traffic stop. Hawks refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. When Hawks attempted to make a right-hand turn at a high rate of speed onto Brown Oaks Rd., he failed to stop at the stop sign and overturned the vehicle.
Deputies extracted two subjects from the vehicle. The female was, identified as Janice Ann Buncy and the male subject was confirmed as Hawks. Fire and EMS responded to evaluate the occupants. While Buncy was being examined by fire personnel, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located in her possession. Following her evaluation, she was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. The magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hawks was transported to Randolph Health for further evaluation. Charges were sought for arrest on Hawks and the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee elude, misdemeanor injury to real property, misdemeanor driving while license revoked -not impaired revoked, misdemeanor fictitious/altered title/registration card/tag, misdemeanor fail to heed light or siren, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, fail to maintain lane control, and fail to stop stop sign/flashing red light.
Following his evaluation, Hawks was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. He was also served an outstanding order for arrest for a probation violation and received a $30,000 total secured bond. A first appearance was set for May 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court on the new charges.
