On June 17, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop in the 3000 block of Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd., Asheboro. The vehicle failed to stop and a chase ensued. A rolling roadblock was conducted successfully on Hwy 134 near the Montgomery County Line. The driver was identified as Jose Roberto Morales, Jr. The passenger was identified as Heather Paige Poupalos, who had outstanding processes. During a search to arrest of Poupalos, illegal substances, and paraphernalia were located. They were both placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center.
The magistrate found probable cause for the charges, as follows:
Jose Roberto Morales, Jr.- felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, misdemeanor driving while license revoked – impaired revoked, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor expired registration card/tag, expired / no inspection, and misdemeanor injury to personal property. He was issued a $25,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for June 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
Heather Paige Poupalos- felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also served her outstanding orders for arrest. The magistrate issued an $8,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for June 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
