On July 31, 2024, the Randolph County Criminal Investigations Division Detectives sought additional charges against Dawson for felony possession of stolen goods/property and the magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
Dawson, still confined in the Randolph County Detention Center, was served his warrant on August 7, 2024, and given a written promise to appear in Randolph County District Court on August 8, 2024.

On July 15, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office went to Wagoner View Dr. to attempt a warrant service but the subject was not present upon arrival. Before leaving the address, a neighbor approached deputies about locating vehicles and trailers on his property that did not belong to him and requested they be removed. Upon investigation, a pontoon boat reported stolen in Davidson County and an enclosed trailer reported stolen in Charlotte, NC, were located.
During the investigation, deputies were able to collect video surveillance evidence showing a vehicle pulling the trailer and parking it in the woods where it was recovered. A short time later, the same truck from the video surveillance pulled into the driveway. Deputies made contact with the driver and detained him for questioning.
Criminal Investigations Division Detectives obtained a search warrant for the property of Jimmy Lee Dawson in connection with this investigation. During the execution of the search warrant, approximately $90,000 in stolen property was recovered and a truck that was used to commit the thefts was also seized. Initial charges were sought against Dawson for felony possession of stolen goods/property. This incident is still under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
On July 30, 2024, Dawson was located by the Criminal Interdiction Team – Urban Unit, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. He was issued no bond and his first appearance was set for July 31, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
He was served his warrant for arrest out of Davidson County for felony larceny and misdemeanor injury to personal property. He received no bond and a first appearance was set for August 5, 2024, in Davidson County District Court.
He was served outstanding warrants out of Guilford County for felony breaking and/or entering, felony larceny after break/enter, felony possession of stolen goods/property, two counts of felony habitual larceny, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor shoplifting concealment of goods, misdemeanor breaking or entering and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property and issued no bond. A first appearance was set for August 1, 2024, in Guilford County District Court.
Dawson was also served his outstanding orders for arrest for failure to appear out of Randolph and Guilford Counties and received a $37,500 total secured bond.
