On October 27, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Graceland Dr. and Kennedy Country Dr., Asheboro, in reference to a family fight, reported by multiple individuals. Upon arrival to the area, a vehicle was located down the embankment off the shoulder of the roadway on Kennedy Country Dr. They were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle there or in the surrounding area.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office then received another call for service in reference to an assault on Crystal Wood Road which was the next road over from where the vehicle was sitting. Deputies responded and the victim of the assault reported that Troy Thomas Blankenship, II, was possibly intoxicated when he ran out of the residence following the assault. He got into a vehicle and drove away. The description of the vehicle he left in matched the vehicle located by deputies down the embankment.
During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from a nearby business. After the vehicle was removed from the embankment, deputies located a phone belonging to Blankenship.
Charges were sought on Blankenship for felony possession of stolen motor vehicle and felony larceny of motor vehicle. The magistrate found probable cause and issued a warrant for arrest.
On November 1, 2024, Blankenship was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. The magistrate issued a $6,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for November 4, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
