***UPDATE***
While investigating this theft, another investigation revealed the same vehicle and trailer had been used in break-ins and thefts on Jim Pierce Rd. in Trinity on several occasions, specifically on November 9th, 14th, and 15th. Following this investigation, additional charges were sought against Christopher Lee Roberts and Aaron Thomas McDowell for felony breaking and or entering, felony larceny after break/enter, and felony possession of stolen goods/property. The magistrate found probable cause and issued warrants for each.
On November 26, 2024, Roberts was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. The magistrate issued no bond and a first appearance was set for the same day in Randolph County District Court.
Later on November 26, 2024, McDowell was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant. The magistrate issued no bond and a first appearance was set for November 27, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

On November 11, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Slick Rock Mtn. Rd., Asheboro, in reference to the larceny/theft of a utility trailer that had already occurred.
On November 15, 2024, following an investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit, Detectives located the stolen utility trailer during a traffic stop on US Highway 64W in Asheboro. The driver of the vehicle, Christopher Lee Roberts, and passenger, Aaron Thomas McDowell, were arrested and transported to Randolph County Detention Center.
Christopher Lee Roberts was charged with Felony Possession Stolen Goods/Property, Felony Larceny, Felony Altering Serial Numbers, Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property, and Misdemeanor Carrying Concealed Gun. He received a $5,000 secured bond with a first appearance set for November 18, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
Aaron Thomas McDowell was charged with Felony Possession Stolen Goods/Property, Felony Larceny, Felony Altering Serial Numbers, and Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property. He received a $2,000 secured bond with a first appearance set for November 18, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
