On December 22, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a suspicious person in the area of Finch Farm Rd., Trinity. The caller advised that a white male, later identified as Carey Lawrence Nealey, entered a store with a baseball bat while screaming, then went into the parking lot, and began trying to gain access to a vehicle. He then left the store on foot.
Upon arrival in the area, deputies located Nealey walking on the roadway still carrying the bat. Nealey did drop the bat after multiple orders but was non-compliant with other commands. Evidence was collected at the store for the report. Nealey was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he continued to be non-compliant. Before going before the magistrate Nealey admitted to having taken methamphetamine prior to this incident.
Nealey was brought before the magistrate on five counts of resist/delay/obstruct, two counts of assault on a government official, three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting injury, one count of malicious conduct by a prisoner, one count of attempted breaking & entering of a motor vehicle, and one count of assault. The magistrate found probable cause for these charges and issued no bond due to Nealey being out on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for December 23, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
During the booking process, detention staff located methamphetamine in Nealey’s wallet. He was taken back before the magistrate where he received a charge of felony possession of methamphetamine and received no bond.
