On February 26, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Finch Farm Rd., Trinity, for a call regarding a vehicle sitting in the roadway with two occupants who appeared to be asleep. Upon approach, both occupants were slumped over and not responsive. The deputy began yelling at both occupants in an attempt to wake them and place the vehicle in park. The male passenger, later identified as Shawn Michael Doup, woke up, reached over from the passenger side, and placed the vehicle in park. An illegal substance was visible in the center console area. The female occupant, later identified as Cynthia Young, finally responded. After having both exit the vehicle, the substance was retrieved and identified as heroin. While searching the vehicle for identification, additional controlled substances and paraphernalia were located.
Both were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for two counts of felony trafficking heroin, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia against both. Young was additionally charged with felony maintain a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance. Both offenders were given a $20,000 secured bond and a first appearance on February 27, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
