On March 7, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at Unity St. and E. Sunrise Ave., Thomasville. During a subsequent search, illegal substances and paraphernalia were located. Matthew Cody Ortiz was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued no bond due to being on pre-trial release. A first appearance was set for March 10, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
