[ARCHIVED] Doing Good in Your Neighborhood March Nominees

little and beltran

Congratulations to Omarrius Little, a senior at Eastern Randolph High School, and Victor Beltran, a junior at the same school, on their nominations in March, for the “Doing Good in Your Neighborhood” program organized by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Today, they were awarded a certificate from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and a “summons” to Chick-fil-A for doing good work in the community.

Omarrius was nominated by Lisa Miller.

During Omarrius’ 11th-grade year, when the school faced unprecedented challenges due to a shortage of teachers able to conduct in-person classes, he stepped up without hesitation, volunteering to tutor students struggling with the demands of online learning and dedicating countless hours to ensure they remained on track academically. This willingness to support others was not isolated to academics; he also played a pivotal role in organizing and volunteering for community service projects.

Another example of his thoughtful approach to addressing our local community's needs, when Omarrius participated in the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce Student LIFT program, he coordinated a drive to gather duffel bags for children in the foster care system as his project.

His compassion continues in his senior year and extends further into our community. Omarrius has been a dedicated volunteer at the local Special Olympics, chaperoning the EC class and ensuring all students felt included and celebrated. His work experiences at the NC Zoo and Daisy and Edward Home Health have further honed his ability to work with diverse groups of people, building his skills in communication, empathy, and adaptability.

Ms. Miller stated that she “first met Omarrius during his freshman year when he took the initiative in service opportunities offered at our school. Over the years, I've watched him grow not only as a student and athlete—serving as captain in wrestling and being a steadfast member of the football and track teams—but also as a leader and a figure of stability within our school community. His role as Vice President of the Student Government Association and the Fellowship Club during his junior and senior years exemplifies his commitment to fostering a supportive environment for his peers. His leadership is characterized not by authority but by a genuine commitment to service and working to support others.”

Congratulations to Omarrius for also being selected the monthly award recipient for March 2025 by members of the Sheriff’s Office who reviewed the submissions. He will be recognized during a visit to the Sheriff’s Office soon.  Omarrius Little

Victor was nominated by Kenita Matthew-White.

As part of the Student LIFT program, participants are required to complete a community service project.  Victor, in his initial decisions regarding his project, chose to focus on assisting the homeless in some way.  During the planning phase, he decided to prepare a spaghetti dinner with a goal of feeding 30 homeless individuals.

As he progressed with his project, he expanded his initiative to include the collection and distribution of hygiene products to the homeless. When trying to determine how to implement his project, he contacted Kenita Matthews-White about partnering with Grace Given (a local nonprofit) to provide a meal and items for the homeless. After coordinating a day to prepare the meal, Victor made his flyer and collected money to execute the project.

Victor was able to exceed his original project plan and made enough spaghetti to feed over 50 homeless individuals, provided them with hygiene bags, and donated the remaining funds to Grace Given to further their cause.  Victor also took his cousin along to give a haircut to one of the males, which was a bonus.

Ms. Matthews-White stated, “Because he didn’t stop with just preparing a meal for 30, but that he went above his initial focus and did more than the project scope, is one reason for my nomination. The way Victor engaged everyone was amazing. He has a caring heart and understands things most people take for granted.  I believe that Victor's contributions had a significant and positive impact on the homeless, knowing that someone so young cared enough about them and wanted to help in some way. What a blessing and wonderful opportunity to acknowledge Victor for his dedication, upholding exceptional values, and doing the right thing regardless of whether anyone is watching.”
