On May 1, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Jordan Road in Ramseur. The vehicle sped off, and a pursuit began and continued to flee into Moore County, where the Moore County Sheriff's Office and NC Highway Patrol assisted. The motorcycle eventually ran out of gas. The driver, identified as Steven Chadwick Taylor, was taken into custody.
During routine checks for warrants, it was discovered that Taylor was wanted out of numerous jurisdictions. He had three active warrants in North Carolina for felony larceny of a firearm, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer. Additionally, Taylor had two Fugitive Warrants out of Colorado and Wyoming. The vehicle in this incident had also been reported stolen.
During the investigation and subsequent search, paraphernalia was found in the possession of the passenger, identified as Rachel Alanah Ricketts. She was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and was given no bond due to being on pretrial release.
Taylor was also transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, misdemeanor injury to personal property, misdemeanor reckless driving-wanton disregard, misdemeanor speeding, motorcycle fail to burn taillight, wrong way on dual lane highway and was given no bond. He was also served with his fugitive warrants and other active warrants.
A first appearance for both was set for May 2, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
