On June 12, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Meadowlands Dr., Asheboro, in reference to a person armed with a firearm shooting at a residence. He was identified as Joe Allen Woods.
Upon arrival, deputies gave verbal commands for Woods to exit the residence unarmed. He refused to comply with the commands, immediately closed the front door, and appeared to be barricading himself inside the residence.
An additional deputy met with the caller/victims and collected evidence while the deputies continued giving verbal commands and attempted to communicate with Woods.
Approximately one hour later, Woods exited the residence without further incident. He was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was not issued a bond. A first appearance was set for June 13, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
