
In November 2024, members of the Invictus Task Force initiated an investigation related to a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. During the course of the investigation, Johnathon Gene Smith was identified as a suspect.
On August 14, 2025, a search warrant was executed by members of the Invictus Task Force, and, as a result, Johnathon Gene Smith was taken into custody and charged with (5) five counts of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Smith was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate issued a $50,000.00 secure bond and set a first appearance in Randolph County District Court for August 15, 2025. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Invictus Task Force representatives.
