On December 9, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team Urban Unit initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Dart on Uwharrie Rd. in Trinity. The vehicle fled the scene, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The vehicle fled into High Point City and the pursuit was terminated when the vehicle operator’s reckless driving created significant risk for the motoring public. The High Point Police Department was notified.
On December 16th, 2025, the vehicle was located in Randolph County again and another traffic stop was initiated by the Patrol division. The vehicle again fled into the city limits of High Point and the pursuit was terminated due to public safety risks.
Later, the High Point Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit located the vehicle and the suspect in their jurisdiction. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team Urban and Highway Units responded to the location. The suspect, identified as Gary Thompson, Jr., was apprehended and transported to the Guilford County Detention Center where he received several charges from both jurisdictions.
Randolph County charges: felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor reckless driving-wanton disregard, misdemeanor driving while license revoked-not impaired revoked, drive left of center, fail to stop-steady red light, unsafe passing oncoming traffic, and drive left of center-pass right.
The vehicle was seized by Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
