Edwards was extradited and arrived at the Randolph County Detention Center on June 2, 2023, where he was served the outstanding warrants and issued a $250,000 secured bond. A first appearance is set for June 5, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.

On February 6, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sexual acts upon minors. Following an investigation of the allegations, Criminal Investigation Detectives sought charges against Sherwin McDonald Edwards for six counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts statutory sex offense with a child under 15 years of age.
Subsequent efforts to locate Edwards were unfruitful. On April 17, 2023, the apprehension case was assigned to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT). Intel from the case detective indicated that Edwards had possibly fled from NC. On May 3, 2023, CAT Detectives obtained a location on Edwards in New York. CAT Detectives contacted NYC Warrant Division-Brooklyn South for apprehension assistance. CAT Detectives worked with NYC Warrant Division-Brooklyn South and the US Marshal Service in New York, where surveillance was conducted on the location CAT believed Edwards to be, until positive ID of Edwards was made by Detectives & the US Marshals Service in New York.
On May 9, 2023, Sherwin McDonald Edwards was apprehended at 19 Stephens Court in New York. He was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice and is being held in New York under No Bond and awaiting an extradition hearing.
