On June 26, 2023, Randolph Communications advised area agencies of an active larceny of a motor vehicle in the N. Fayetteville St. area of Asheboro assigned to the Asheboro Police Department. Communications continued to update agencies as they received information. Shortly after, Communications advised that Asheboro Officers were pursuing a driver that may have been involved in the larceny of the motor vehicle. The Asheboro Officers advised that the vehicle was entering onto Highway 73/74N and were going to attempt a traffic stop. Upon the attempt, the vehicle sped up and refused to stop and a pursuit ensued north on Highway 73/74. Asheboro Police requested an agency assist from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies in the area were able to catch up to the chase near mile marker 88 and continue the pursuit upon leaving the Asheboro jurisdiction. Deputies observed that the vehicle was occupied by four individuals. The vehicle then continued north on Highway 73/74 and entered into Greensboro city limits. The deputies advised Communications that the violator vehicle made a left turn onto Hahns Ln., which is a dead end. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop at the end of the parking area of a complex, all four occupants fled southeast on foot. A description of each were given to Communications to share with other agencies. The right rear passenger was quickly taken into custody and identified. The left rear passenger was then also apprehended, taken into custody and identified. Both subjects were juveniles.
Greensboro Police K9 attempted to track the two outstanding suspects. Deputies from Guilford observed a male, fitting the general description given to Communications, walking west in the parking area. Deputies from Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and officers with Greensboro Police Department pursued the subject and arrested him on Hahns Ln. While he was being detained, a concealed handgun was located on his person. The subject was identified as Jyreke Shahien King. The deputy that gave the description of the suspects was able to positively identify this suspect as the driver of the vehicle. King was taken into custody for the driving charges and additional charges related to this incident. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, felony possess stolen motor vehicle, misdemeanor reckless driving – wanton disregard, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor conceal handgun permit violation, and failure to stop – steady red light.
He was also served a warrant obtained by Asheboro Police Department, related to the incident, for felony break or enter a motor vehicle, felony larceny of motor vehicle and larceny after break/enter. The magistrate issued a total secured bond of $30,000 and a first appearance was set for June 27, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
