On July 28, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Randolph Tabernacle Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a welfare check on an open line calling 911. Upon arrival, deputies could hear the altercation from outside the residence. Upon making contact with the caller, both parties were separated for interviews and investigation. Randolph County EMS responded for evaluation.
Following the investigation, Cranford was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony assault by strangulation, misdemeanor assault on a female, and misdemeanor interfere with emergency communications. He was denied bond due to the domestic in nature charges. A first appearance was set for same day July 28, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
