On September 26, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to US HWY 64 E. to a larceny that had already occurred at Farm Systems Inc. The victim stated that Andrew James Denton had been to the store on three occasions, made several purchases, and opened a charge account. He made multiple purchases on credit and used a check to pay for some items. Their bank later advised that the check was declined due to insufficient funds. The victim was able to provide a list of items from the transactions.
During the investigation, deputies were able to locate and recover items that had already been pawned and return them to the business.
On September 28, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding the location of Andrew James Denton, a wanted subject. Deputies located the vehicle in which he was traveling on US Hwy 64 (bypass) and initiated a traffic stop, but Denton refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued west on US 64 Bypass to Zoo Parkway where he crossed the median to go back west on US 64 Bypass. The driver continued west on US 64 Bypass onto NC Hwy 49 S. where he lost control and collided with another vehicle, which had already moved outside of the roadway in order to try to avoid the collision.
As the suspect vehicle came to a stop, Denton exited the vehicle and began running west into the woods but was quickly apprehended. EMS and Fire responded to the scene and evaluated all patients on scene. NCSHP responded to investigate the accident.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, deputies observed that the displayed North Carolina registration plate had been altered. They also located paraphernalia and an item related to a fraud case under investigation.
Passenger Donna Ann Denton had an outstanding order for arrest out of Yadkin County for failure to appear on felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor resisting public officer, and misdemeanor possession drug paraphernalia. She was also placed under arrest.
Both were transported to the Randolph County Detention Center and taken before the magistrate.
Donna Denton was served her outstanding process and issued a $6,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 11, 2023, in Yadkin County District Court.
The magistrate found probable cause for the following charges against Andrew Denton: felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony hit/run causing serious injury, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor speeding, misdemeanor operate a vehicle with no insurance, misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor expired registration card/tag, improper passing on right, drive left of center and unsafe tires. He was issued a $80,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for September 29, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
Randolph - The magistrate also found probable cause for charges of felony obtain property by false pretense and misdemeanor worthless check regarding the reported theft at Farm Systems, Inc. Additional charges are forthcoming regarding the theft at Farm Systems, Inc.
Denton was also served multiple orders for arrests and warrants for arrest from Davidson, County, Davie County, Yadkin County, Guilford County, Stokes County, and Surry County and received a $275,472.72 secured bond.

- order for arrest for failure to appear on misdemeanor simple worthless check. $30,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for November 15 in Surry County.
• Yadkin County
- order for arrest for failure to appear on misdemeanor worthless check. $1,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 11 in Yadkin County.
- order for arrest for failure to appear on felony obtain property by false pretense and misdemeanor worthless check. $70,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 11 in Yadkin County.
• Davidson County
- warrant for arrest for felony obtain property by false pretense. $5,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 5 in Davidson County District Court.
- order for arrest for failure to appear on felony obtain property by false pretense. $75,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 5 in Davidson County.
• Stokes County
- order for arrest for failure to appear on misdemeanor worthless check. $1773.92 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 9 in Stokes County.
- order for arrest for failure to appear on felony worthless check, felony obtain property by false pretense. $2,653.80 secured bond and a first appearance was set for December 4 in Stokes County.
• Davie County
- Order for arrest for failure to appear on felony obtain property by false pretense. $30,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for November 30 in Davie County.
• Guilford County
- Warrant for arrest for felony flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, fail yield stop sign/flashing red light, and unsafe passing yellow line $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 3 in Guilford County District Court.
The September 26th fraud incident is still under investigation.
