On August 2, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Post Rd., Thomasville, in reference to fraud. The victims had mailed checks for payment in July but when they received their statement in August, they realized that two large withdrawals had been made using the two checks that were written and mailed for much less.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Jelisa Tatreyanna Barghen of Greensboro on October 2, 2023, for felony identity theft, felony forgery of instruments, felony uttering forged instrument, felony obtain property by false pretense, and felony accessing computers.
On October 26, 2023, Barghen was located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was served the outstanding warrant. She was issued a $10,000 secured bond and her first appearance was set for October 27, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
