On October 26, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Grantville Lane, Asheboro, in reference to a gunshot/assault call. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim inside the residence, and a female suspect was identified outside the residence. Fire Department personnel then arrived at the scene and began rendering first aid to the victim and suspect while EMS was en route. It was reported that the suspect was assaulted by another individual following the victim being shot. Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Investigations responded and assumed the investigation and evidence collection. The victim and suspect were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Following the initial investigation and release of the suspect, identified as Ashley Essick, from the hospital, she was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. She was issued a $100,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 27, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
