On April 17, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service on Bethel Lucas Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a possible burglary in progress. Prior to reaching the address the caller advised Communications that a Tonya Marie York subject was attempting to take items from a camper on the property. Upon arrival, the deputy observed York and a juvenile running from the residence into the wooded area. A perimeter was established in attempts to apprehend both individuals. A short time later, York was apprehended but the juvenile was not located. Deputies were advised that the juvenile was currently listed as missing through the Archdale Police Department and York had numerous warrants in correlation with taking the juvenile as non-custodial parent. York was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was served her outstanding warrant for two counts felony abduction of children and an order for arrest for failure to appear on felony. She was issued a $35,000 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for April 18, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
Deputies continued their search, locating some items belonging to the juvenile.
On April 18, 2022, deputies continued to follow up on the incident and returned to the address on Bethel Lucas Rd. locating the juvenile who had been entered as missing. He was transported to the Archdale Police Department and returned to his legal guardian.
