[ARCHIVED] DID YOU KNOW? The Sheriff’s Office has a Peer Support Team

peer

In December 2018, Sheriff Seabolt created the Sheriff’s Office Peer Support Team to ensure employees have the support they need in dealing with the trauma and stress they experience in the course of their duties. Law enforcement is regarded as one of the nation’s most stressful occupations.  The peer support team was started to assist deputies in dealing with stress and emotional difficulties related to officer involved or critical incidents. The team is comprised of volunteer deputies, retired law enforcement, and the Sheriff’s Office Chaplain.  All team members receive specialized training and care deeply about the well-being of our law enforcement brothers and sisters. Our chosen profession exposes members to traumatic events and heinous acts of which the average citizen is not even aware.  Continued exposure to these incidents sometimes result in accumulated stress that can adversely affect mental and emotional health of our deputies.  Beyond their training, Peer Support Team members have access to outside resources and programs for additional support such as the North Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program and County provided wellness programs.
