The Fleet Maintenance Facility has been a huge savings for our taxpayers. This maintenance facility also gives us an opportunity to provide safer vehicles to our patrol deputies. The vehicles are being maintained and serviced by qualified individuals who have vast mechanical experience and have worked for commercial garages in the past. We also have a sworn law enforcement member assigned to oversee the garage who understand the demands law enforcement driving places on a vehicle and the needs of a law enforcement vehicle operator. The assigned member working as the fleet maintenance facility supervisor transferred into a position that was created by a previous administration to oversee the building and specialty vehicles. We have contracts with vendors that are located right here in Randolph County. Mighty Auto Parts of CNC is our primary parts supplier and East Coast Tires is our primary tire vendor; they are both owned by J.P. Thomas, Inc. of Asheboro. We also utilize local auto part stores (Advance, Auto Zone, O’Reilly) for parts we can’t obtain through our primary vendor. Our facility is able to do the majority of work on our fleet. Any major repair work, such as major engine and transmission work and body repair work is sourced out to local repair shops. By utilizing these vendors and repair shops, we keep revenue in Randolph County.
