On August 20, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Greensboro Rd., Randleman, in reference to a burglary in progress. The caller advised seeing a male subject attempting to gain entry into the front door of New Salem Baptist Church. Upon arrival, deputies located the male, identified as Stephon Omar Silas, sitting on the front steps of the church. He was detained for further investigation and evidence was collected.
Silas was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony break/enter place of worship and misdemeanor injury to real property. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 21, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
