On September 22, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Stone Country Lane, Asheboro, in reference to a possible burglary in progress as an unknown male was kicking their door. Upon arrival, the victims advised that the subject had run into the woods just before the deputy’s arrival but were able to provide a description of the subject. Another deputy and a Trooper responded to assist in the search and located the suspect, identified as Christopher Ray Rice, in the woods. He was detained for further investigation.
Following the investigation, Rice was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony attempted first-degree burglary and misdemeanor injury to real property. He was given no bond and a first appearance was set for September 23, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
