On October 14, 2024, while on patrol, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was flagged down by a citizen who advised that they recently had some landscaping equipment stolen in Davidson County and had filed a report with Davidson County. He had recently obtained information that the company’s stolen property may be located at a former employee’s address on Old Mendenhall Rd. in Randolph County.
Following a discussion with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Deputy who took the initial report and was investigating the case, an attempt was made to contact the former employee, Ethan Dell Harvell, at the residence but was unsuccessful.
After leaving the residence, the victim received a phone call stating that Harvell had made contact and had stated that he was willing to meet somewhere to give the property back. The deputy and company representative returned to the address where they met with Harvell and obtained the property which had been stolen.
Harvell initially resisted but was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of stolen goods, and misdemeanor resisting public officer. The magistrate issued a $3,000 secure bond and a first appearance was set for October 15, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.
