On May 6, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Chaney Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a burglary in progress. While enroute to the residence, deputies were advised that the subjects had left the scene. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Ahlea Marie Atkins, who is known by the victim, and two male subjects had arrived at the residence, forced entry and stolen a dog from inside. The male subject who broke into the residence was later identified as Bryan Phillip Morton. Crime Scene Investigators arrived to collect evidence and the information was forwarded to Criminal Investigation Detectives. The dog was subsequently located and returned to the owner.
Following the investigation, Detectives sought warrants against Bryan Phillip Morton and Ahlea Marie Atkins with the magistrate who found probable cause for the charges, as follows:
Bryan Phillip Morton - Felony Common Law Robbery and Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property
Ahlea Marie Atkins - Felony Common Law Robbery
On May 19, 2022, Morton and Atkins were located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where they were served the warrants for arrest.
Morton was given a $25,000 secured bond and Atkins was given a $20,000 secured bond. Both have a first appearance set for May 20, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
