Travis Jerome Clapp was convicted of indecent liberties with minor on May 2, 2022, in Randolph County. This conviction placed Clapp on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.
On May 11, 2022, Clapp’s Probation Officer advised him that he could not reside at his current address in Liberty due to a daycare being less than 1,000 feet away. On May 13, 2022, Clapp came to Randolph County Sheriff's Office to register as a sex offender. Clapp was advised by the Sex Offender Registry Detective that he could not reside at his current address and that he must comply with all rules of the sex offender registry and Randolph County Probation. Clapp was given until May 18, 2022, 4 pm locate another residence and report back to the Sheriff's Office to update his information. By NC law, an offender must appear in person and give a written notice of an address change.
A warrant was issued on May 20, 2022, for felony violation of residence restrictions and a felony probation violation.
Clapp turned himself in at the Randolph County Detention Center on the afternoon of May 20, 2022. He was taken before the magistrate and served the warrants. He was issued a $15,000 secured bond plus EHA and a first appearance was set for May 24, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
