On February 26, 2025, the Randolph County Detention Center staff responded to the pod in which inmate Jeffery Chad Hoover was housed due to a verbal altercation with other inmates. During the investigation, Hoover grew agitated, refused commands, and began assaulting Detention Officers. Hoover was secured, removed from the pod, and rehoused to another pod. Following an investigation by the Detention Center Detective, charges were sought against Hoover. The magistrate found probable cause for Felony Assault Causing Physical Injury to a Detention Employee and Hoover was served. No bond was given and a court date was set for March 3, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
