On May 28, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle from Talmer Wright Road and a subsequent financial fraud. The victim reported the suspect, James Joshua Thompson who is known by the victim, took the vehicle and a credit card without permission; and had just withdrawn a substantial amount of money using the card. While responding the residence of the caller, Asheboro Police Department stopped the victim’s vehicle at the intersection of Kivett St. and Uwharrie Street. The deputy met with the APD Officer and detained Thompson, pending investigation. Thompson had an outstanding order for arrest. Thompson was found in possession of the victim’s financial card and a large sum of money. Thompson was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was taken before the magistrate, who found probable cause for the following charges: Felony Possession of Stolen Goods, Felony Financial Card Theft, Felony Financial Card Fraud, Felony Identity Theft, and Misdemeanor Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was also served with his outstanding Order for Arrest for Driving While License Revoked. The magistrate issued a total secured bond in the amount of $24,000 for all processes. A first appearance was set for May 31, 2022, for the Order and June 15, 2022, for the additional charges.
