On December 14, 2025, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Turnpike Rd., Archdale, in reference to attempting to locate a wanted person, Mickey Tylar Smith. Upon arrival, Smith was observed in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and fled upon seeing deputies. A vehicle pursuit ensued, ending with Smith’s vehicle striking the pursing deputy’s vehicle at a low speed. Smith was taken into custody without further incident. Also located in the vehicle were two passengers, one being a juvenile. Neither were injured; both were released.
The vehicle Smith fled in was found to have been stolen in Guilford County.
Following the investigation, Smith was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee to elude, felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, misdemeanor resist/obstruct/delay, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor child abuse, driving while license revoked, failure to maintain lane, improper passing on the right, speeding, fictious tag, failure to stop at steady red light. He was also served his outstanding warrant for felony possession of stolen goods/property.
He was issued no bond. A first appearance was set for December 15, 2025, in Randolph County District Court.
