On June 25, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Ridge Rd., Seagrove, in reference to a 911 call regarding an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital by emergency personnel where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim was identified as Mishael (Mj) Auman. Mishael was employed full time with the City of Asheboro and a longtime firefighter in Randolph County. He was an active volunteer with the Seagrove Fire Department at the time of his death.
Following an investigation by detectives and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, a warrant for arrest was issued for Heather Hicks Auman, the victim's wife, for murder.
On June 29, 2022, Auman was arrested at her residence and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was served with a warrant for First Degree Murder. Bond was denied. A first appearance has been set for July 1, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
The investigation is ongoing.
