On July 5, 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of Tobacco Road and Old Tobacco Road. As the subject pulled off to the side of the road, it appeared the driver, identified as Azel Eugene Davis, tossed items into the adjacent wooded area. Upon investigation of that area, Davis’ identification and methamphetamine were located. He was taken into custody and was transported to the magistrate's office in Asheboro. The magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a stop sign violation, no rear lamps, no registration plate, and no insurance.
Mr. Davis was given a written promise and a court date of June 5, 2022, at the Randolph County Courthouse.
