On August 23, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Ross Harris Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a larceny/theft in progress. The victim reported watching a male subject drive off with their UTV. The victim followed the suspect down the road where the male subject drove the UTV into a ditch and ran into the woods. A clothing description was provided as well as a photo the victim had captured of the suspect. Deputies attempted to locate the suspect in the wooded area but were unsuccessful. A key that belonged to an unknown vehicle was located in the wooded area along with other stolen property. Assorted stolen items were also located in the bed of the UTV and all were returned to the victim.
The Criminal Investigations Division determined that on August 23, 2022, there was a call for service on Tiger Flower Rd. about a suspicious vehicle, which is in close proximity to Ross Harris Road. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen out of Greensboro. Detectives made contact with a nearby resident and were able to review surveillance video. They were able to identify the male as Jonathan Roy Garbade. It was determined that the key located with items from the Ross Harris Rd. incident was for this vehicle. Detectives also found evidence that indicated Garbade had been sleeping under the residence on Tiger Flower Rd. which was in violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order.
A warrant was sought against Jonathan Garbade for Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Possession Stolen Motor Vehicle, Felony Breaking or Entering, Felony Larceny after Breaking or Entering and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods for the Ross Harris Rd. case. An additional warrant for arrest was sought for Felony Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle and Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Protective Order Violation for the case on Tiger Flower Rd.
On August 26, 2022, Greensboro Police Department arrested Jonathan Garbade. He was served the outstanding warrants and issued a $15,000 total secured bond. A first appearance was set for September 21, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
