On October 2, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident on Stanford Rd., Trinity. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject in the driver’s seat, later identified as Derek Wayne Clodfelter, who appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to investigate; Clodfelter was placed under arrest for DWI. During a subsequent search, fentanyl was located in his possession. The deputy went to the magistrate's office to swear out a warrant for Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance and Driving While License Revoked. The magistrate found probable cause and issued the warrant. Clodfelter was then served with his warrants for arrest and issued a $3,500 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 3, 2022, in Randolph County District Court. He was left in the custody of the Randolph County Detention Center.
