On October 12, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on US Hwy 311, Archdale. The driver was identified as Steven Brent Barnhart, who the deputy discovered had multiple outstanding warrants for failing to appear. Barnhart was asked to turn off the vehicle and step out of it, but refused. He then sped off driving east on US Highway 311 and a pursuit ensued until he came to a stop on Cray Drive. Barnhart was assisted from the vehicle and placed under arrest. During a subsequent search, paraphernalia was located. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee/elude arrest, resist obstruct delay, speeding, driving while license revoked, expired registration, expired inspection, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $27,000 total secured bond. A first appearance was set for October 17, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
