On October 14, 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Detective observed a suspicious vehicle with two subjects in the area of Burney Rd., Asheboro, and stopped to conduct an investigation. The deputy noticed the male subject had exited the vehicle and was walking behind a residence. The deputy found a female asleep in the front passenger seat, later identified as Ashley Loree Ray. Additional deputies arrived to assist with the investigation. The male subject was located in the wooded area behind the house attempting to locate scrap metal. The owner of the residence was contacted and did not wish to pursue charges.
During a subsequent search, methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia were located were found in Ray’s possession. She was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana under 1/2 oz., misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She received a $1,500 secured bond. A first appearance was set for October 17, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
