On November 1, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Tom Hill Rd. near Archdale Rd., Archdale. The driver failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued proceeding onto Interstate 85. Upon approaching exit 128, the passenger door of the vehicle briefly opened. The vehicle travelled approximately 300 yards before coming to a stop on exit 128. The passenger willingly exited the vehicle and was detained by assisting deputies during the investigation; he was interviewed and released. The driver, identified as Thomas Brandon Sims, was taken into custody and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of Felony Flee to Elude with Motor Vehicle, Felony Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, Speeding, Driving While License Revoked, and Left of Center. He was issued a $5,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for November 1, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
