On December 5, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Hwy 22 N., Franklinville, in reference to a sickness call for service. Upon arrival, the caller stated that earlier that morning a vehicle accident occurred in his front yard and a female, later identified as Mary Beth Perkins Cagle, had been ejected from the vehicle. Cagle allowed her to stay at the residence to wait for a ride due to her vehicle being towed. The caller stated that Cagle soon began experiencing medical distress and he therefore called 911. Once on scene, deputies and fire personnel attempted to check her vitals but she became combative and denied medical treatment. The deputy explained to her that she could no longer stay at that residence and offered her a ride due to her condition. Cagle agreed and was willing for the deputy to give her a ride. During a subsequent search, illegal narcotics and paraphernalia were seized. Cagle advised that she wanted to go to the hospital and was transported by EMS.
The deputy went before the magistrate, who found probable cause for the charges and a warrant was issued for her arrest in reference to Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Misdemeanor Simple Possession of Schedule IV and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On January 3, 2023, Cagle was located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where she was served the outstanding warrant. She was issued a $15,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for January 4, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
