On January 26, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Archdale Road, Trinity, in reference to a larceny. Upon arrival, a victim explained that a subject had been hired to pressure wash a shared building. When he had arrived to the building that evening, it was discovered that several items were now missing. When he had confronted the hired person, only known as Ryan at that time, Ryan walked away from the residence. Deputies searched the area but did not locate him and returned to further investigate. The other victim of the shared building arrived and discovered some of his items were also missing. He advised that the subject in question was an employee of his. He was concerned that his residence may have been broken into also. A deputy accompanied him to check. While there, a male approached them and the victim identified him as Ryan. Deputies detained the male, who was identified as Matthew Ryan Karbley. He was questioned about the whereabouts of the missing items and willingly assisted with the search for the items that he had hid in the wood line. After an extensive search, the items were located and returned to their owners. Karbley was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center. During the intake process and a more thorough search, illegal substances were located in the possession of Karbley. The magistrate found probable cause for two counts felony larceny, felony attempted break or enter building, felony possession of burglary tools, two counts felony possession of stolen goods/property, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance on prison/jail premises, and misdemeanor simple possession schedule IV controlled substance. Karbley was issued a $20,000 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for January 27, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
