On March 2, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Foxfire Rd., Asheboro to assist Randolph County Animal Services. The requesting officer advised they had conducted a welfare check on the animals at the address in February, at which that time the three dogs were all alive and in fair health. Upon their arrival on this date for follow-up, one dog was running at large; one was tied up and malnourished; the other dog, housed in a crate, was deceased. Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations & Crime Scene Divisions responded to investigate and collect evidence.
Following an investigation by detectives, charges were sought against Modesty Dominique Alston for felony kill an animal by starvation, felony cruelty to animals, and misdemeanor cruelty to animals. The magistrate found probable cause to issue the warrant.
On March 8, 2023, the Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Alston at the Foxfire Road address. She was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center and taken before the magistrate, who issued a $10,000 secured bond. A first appearance was set for March 9, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
