On April 5, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Thompson Rd., Archdale, in reference to a reported larceny in progress. Upon arrival, the victim provided information related to the larceny of a four-wheeler that had just occurred. A witness was able to provide a description of the subject. During the investigation, deputies located cameras in the area that captured video footage of the subject operating the four-wheeler and the direction of travel.
Deputies canvassed the surrounding area looking for the subject or the four-wheeler and High Point Police Department responded to assist. The suspect was identified as Mickey Tyler Smith, who admitted to stealing the four-wheeler and provided the location of it. The four-wheeler was located and returned to the victim. Communications advised Smith had an outstanding order for arrest for possession of a stolen motor vehicle out of Randolph County.
Smith was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony larceny of a motor vehicle and felony possession of stolen goods. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for April 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court. He was also served the order for arrest for failure to appear and given an additional $10,000 secured bond.
