On April 9, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the area of US Hwy 220 S. The operator of the motorcycle fled from the deputy onto Old State Highway and a vehicle pursuit ensured. The suspect proceeded onto US HWY 220 S. from Virgil Hill Road where he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and identified as Richard Anthony Vestal, Jr.
Randolph County EMS responded to evaluate Vestal and he was subsequently transported him to Randolph Health for further evaluation. Upon arrival to the hospital, a further search was conducted and Vestal was found to be in possession of suspected illicit drugs.
Upon further investigation of the motorcycle, it was discovered that the tag was fictitious and the vehicle was uninsured.
Once Vestal was medically cleared from Randolph Health, he was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was brought before the magistrate. The deputy presented the facts of this case. The magistrate found probable cause for the offense of Felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony possession methamphetamine, misdemeanor driving while license revoked – not impaired revoked, misdemeanor ficticious/altered title/registration card/tag, misdemeanor no liablility insurance, misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor reckless driving – wanton disregard, and misdemanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also served his outstanding order for arrest and issued a $104,000 total secured bond. A first appearance was set for April 10, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
